~ The most efficient way to enjoy Chaga Tea on a daily basis is to make
a large batch once per week, and then store in a pitcher in the refrigerator for the following week...until it's consumed and time to brew again.
It can be used hot or cold, with other ingredients or alone.
A basic tea recipe is listed at the bottom of this page.
~ Chaga chunks may be re-used several times before the
medicinal properties are totally depleted. After a batch of tea
is brewed, simply remove the Chaga from the liquid and dry
thoroughly and quickly (in the sun, in front of a fan, heat source, etc.).
Dried Chaga chunks can be used 3-4 times each, and can be broken-down
or ground-up into smaller pieces for subsequent brews -
optimizing the potency of the tea.
~ Once the Chaga has been brewed, the medicinal liquid can be
used in a variety of preparations. As a beverage, it can be consumed
hot or cold, as-is or blended with additional flavorings/additives to
your liking, mixed with other liquids (juice, coffee, tea, etc.), or used
in cooking/recipes calling for liquid/stock/broth (soup/sauce)...
as long as no additional boiling is involved.
BASIC CHAGA TEA METHOD
1. Place desired amount of dried Chaga chunks in a medium-to-large soup pot
and fill 2/3 - 3/4 of pot with water. While brewing Chaga Tea is far from a precise science...generally speaking, approximately 4 ounces of Chaga will make a fairly large batch of tea (about a week's worth, give or take), using your biggest soup pot.
2. Place pot on stove burner and bring JUST to the boiling point.
Reduce heat to simmer (the lowest setting) and cover with a lid or foil.
DO NOT BOIL!
3. Allow to simmer on low heat for at least an hour...and up to 4-6 hours,
depending on desired strength and medicinal potency. As a rule, if you're using the
tea as a preventative supplement, one hour is adequate. If used as a treatment/remedy
(for more serious disease/ailments), then a longer simmering duration is recommended.
4. When done simmering, you can leave covered pot to steep on stove overnight,
or uncover immediately and allow liquid to cool before draining and/or removing
Chaga. Pour prepared tea/liquid into any suitable container or pitcher
and keep refrigerated for up to a week.
5. Next week...do it again!
And, most importantly, ENJOY!!!
